Newbie here to Duramax and Forums, Just purchased a 2003 2500 Silverado Duramax..with 180,000 on it about a mth. ago, been running fine until two days ago, oil pressure gradually starting dropping, pulled over after seeing this shut truck off, checked oil, looked fine but dark..black..no diesel smell to oil, did that paper towell test to …It's still uck of the draw. Theres HUNDREDS of broken DURAMAX cranks from guys running aftermarket balancers on engine with cirtually no run time. LML's seem to pop around the 150-200K mile mark, others are a gamble. As to harmonics, these same harmonics are present in engines running ATI balancers, it's just a natural harmonic in the engine.

The oil pan would have to be dropped to confirm the broken crank. Not that you did anything wrong. Plenty of builders reuse that stuff. I agree with Jaime more of those are popping up that reused the crank in a new build.
